Academy of Management Research Conference Highlights

The Academy of Management’s annual conference was held in Boston in August. The size and scope of the conference attracted several CWRU DM/PhD alums and current students to attend – and often present their research.

Carol McGuire (PhD ‘16) and Ted Ladd (PhD ’16) took this opportunity to convene the Annual Meeting of the DM/PhD students, DM/PhD alumni, and Engaged Practitioner Scholar Community at the conference.  After a brief State of the State on the DM Program by Kalle, several graduates (coincidentally all PhD ’16!) gave short talks on new methods for conducting research. These included:
  • Kris Murphy, PhD ’16 Using Artificial Intelligence
  • Lori Kendall, PhD ’16 Tableau for Data Visualization
  • Ted Ladd, PhD ’16 Bespoke Simulations
  • Dan Cohen, PhD ’16: Experiments
  • Mikhail Oet, PhD ’16: Self-organizing mapping (SOM)

Next year’s AOM conference will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, August 7-11, 2020. The deadline for submissions is in early January. Carol and Ted urge all alums to submit and present in order to their maintain momentum in scholarly research. They also ask that other classes consider organizing and hosting this annual event. (There were lots of PhD ‘19s in the room! Hint, hint.)
