Spring 2020: Presentations and Publications

We love recognizing our accomplished alumni and their presentations and publications that have occurred since the last release of the DM Digest.

Joseph Mandato, DM ’04, senior adviser for Mainsail Partners discussed his career journey, entrepreneurship and overall experience with venture capital at the CWRU Entrepreneurship Alumni Series on February 20, 2020.

Mandato also posted an article in the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance titled CEO Chairman. Two Jobs, One Person.

Byron Clayton, DM ’09, was interviewed on IQ Smartparent, a segment on the Fourth Industrial Revolution. (Byron’s interview starts 8 minutes into the segment.)

Stephan Liozu, PhD ‘13, and Josh Gerlick, DM ’21, published Ethical and Legal Considerations of Artificial Intelligence & Algorithmic Decision-Making in Personalized Pricing in the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management (2019).

Stephan also published 10 Golden Rules of EVE® Models in Pricing Advisor, October 2019, 1-4 and "Competitive Intelligence for Value-based Pricing and EVE®” in the Journal of Professional Pricing Q4: 12-16 (December 2019)

Joe Thornton, DM ’13, and John T. Byrd published an article in the Academy of Business Research Journal on "Humility, vulnerability and authentic leadership: A life stories approach". Read the abstract.

Nnaoke Ufere, PhD ’13, Gaskin, J., Perelli, S., DM ’05, Somers, A., Boland, R. published Why is bribery pervasive among firms in Sub-Saharan African countries? Multi-industry empirical evidence of organizational isomorphism in the Journal of Business Research. (January 2020).

Nnaoke Ufere, PhD ’13, Gaskin, J., Ufere, C., Garrett, L., Satterwhite, K. published Practice Motivated Research: Application of an Evidence-Informed Prognostic Model in Vocational Rehabilitation to Increase the Chance of Employment at Closure in the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation. (March 2019).

Nnaoke Ufere, PhD ’13, Hailu, D., Lemma, T., published A Practitioner’s Guide for Corruption Risk Mitigation in Extractive Industries in the UNDP Working Papers Series for UNDP’s Global Anti-corruption Initiative (GAIN) and UNDP’s Global Initiative in Extractive Industries for Sustainable Development. Guide is being implemented is several UN member states.

Phil Cola, PhD ’15, and Josh Gerlick, DM ’21, were part of a group of researchers at Case Western Reserve University who were awarded the 2020 Scholarship in Teaching Award Evaluating Leadership Development for Women in Academic Medicine: Outcomes of the FLEX Leadership Development Program. In addition to this award this group of researchers presented their preliminary findings at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Medical Colleges:

Jodi Berg, PhD ’17, spoke to the full-time MBA’s at Case Western Reserve University in the Sustainability Workshop Series on February 12, 2020. The title of her talk was Purposeful Flourishing: A blended approach.

Suzanne Cromlish, PhD ’17, developed the curriculum for an Introduction to Business course offered to local high school students by the Saint Xavier University’s Graham School of Management. This unique program is the first of its kind in the Chicago area and an incredible benefit for college and career preparation for high school students. Read more about the high school course.

Tony Scardillo, DM ’17, will be presenting his paper on The Perfect Storm: Using Semester-Long Marketing Projects to Overcome the Impending Crisis in Higher Education at the Marketing Educators’ Association Conference April, 2-4 in Seattle, Washington.

Tony also published an article Are We Having Fun Yet? What is the Relationship Between Employee Job Satisfaction, Mentoring, and Fun at Work in the Journal for Advancing Business Education.

Josh Gerlick, DM ’21, published an article in the International Journal of Ethical Leadership titled Transparency in apparel: Everlane as a barometer for global positive impact.
