Sometimes, “The world is too much with us.” What an understatement, Mr. Wordsworth! Coronavirus, political strife, economic challenges, and climate upheavals, all while we’ve been dealing with our own personal and professional issues, have made 2020-21 a time of uncertainty. So you may not have been thinking lately about what’s happening with Weatherhead’s DBA/PhD programs. But you can be certain about the future value of your degree, because there’s lots to be proud out loud about your alma mater, Case Western Reserve University:
· #19 of private research institutions based on Federal R&D expenditures
· More than 1300 sponsored research projects
· Nearly 200 inventions
· 270+ recent industry partners
Especially relevant to us alumni, Weatherhead School of Management remains committed to preparing executives to address the challenges of the 21st century through research and innovation. To that end, the University’s Strategic Plan, “Linking Our Legacy to Our Future” includes specifics for sustaining the future value of your investment in your degree.
Engaged Practitioner Scholar Activities
If you as alumni want to move your research forward, present your research or publish as a practitioner-scholar, reach out to Phil Cola about research dissemination strategies. You can reach out to Kalle Lyytinen or Adrian Wolfberg about publishing in Engaged Management ReView. Our Weatherhead journal serves the engaged management scholarship community by encouraging and publishing high quality research on meaningful, salient problems as experienced by organizational actors like yourself.
If you are interested in learning more about how to routinely combine your practice activities with meaningful scholarship activities we also offer an Engaged Practitioner Scholar (EPS) Fellowship to those alumni that might be interested in working with faculty to further their research beyond the program deliverables.
Phil has been organizing EPS activities and with some additional help from a current DBA student, Ivory Simms, will continue to help connect individuals for post-program research activities. Phil, as the Associate Director of Academic Affairs and an Associate Professor of Management and Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, where he teaches qualitative and quantitative research methods, healthcare management, and leadership is continuing to attempt to further his own career as a triple-threat practitioner scholar who teaches, conducts research and provides service to the University. He continues to publish relevant literature in both management and medical journals while serving on the Faculty Senate of Case Western Reserve University. You can contact Phil (and ask him about Research Dissemination and Research Fellowship opportunities!) at pac4@case.edu
Finally, while it’s not definite yet (more to come soon!) we are hoping to finally celebrate our 25th Anniversary, two years later! Please hold on to hope that we will be able to get together in person again in April 2022!
Your ALUMNI COUNCIL REPRESENTS YOU. We’d love to hear from you and share your news in the next DM Digest. If you have questions, comments, or news to share, please contact one of us:
