Presentations and Publications

We love recognizing our accomplished DBA/DM/PhD alumni and current students and their presentations and publications that have occurred since the last release of the DM Digest. The list is impressive:
  • Shawana Johnson, DBA (MGT ’98) Chief Science Officer for Descartes Labs Government, Inc.,  presented Global 5G Chinese Domination: Reducing the Communication Network ‘Attack Surface’ Universally in the Innovative Tradecraft Competition on April 26 where she will introduce unique ways to secure network data with a DOD network partner, SCATR, while providing GEOINT precise analytics with open-source data.
  • Michael Grieves, DBA (MGT ’00) has a new publication on the Digital Twin concept that he originated. The interest and use of Digital Twins have expanded to all areas and industries. The Journal publication is entitled:  Intelligent digital twins and the development and management of complex systems. Among his speaking engagements, Dr. Grieves was the keynote speaker for the IEEE Annual Modeling and Simulation Conference at San Diego State University in April.
  • Kathy Overbeke, DBA (MGT ’09) DBA  published an article in Psychology Today, “Are Children in Family Businesses Really Greedy?” | Psychology Today.
  • Ruth Bernstein, DM (MGT ’11), Rolf, S., Tuggle, C., Schlachter, S., published an article on  Predictors of Organizational Diversity: Examining Community Demographics & Political Ideology. In the Nonprofit Voluntary Sector Quarterly. 
  • Bernstein, R.S. & Aspin, T. published Leveraging Social Justice During the COVID-19 Pandemic. in the Journal of Nonprofit Education and Leadership, Vol. 12(2), 4-16. (2022).
  • Bernard Bailey, PhD (GRS ’12, management) discusses the pay gap between CEOs and their employees at the largest public companies in Northeast Ohio with Crain's Cleveland Business.
  • Kathy Buse, PhD (GRS ’12, management) presented a paper on Examining Gender Equality in Various Organizational and National Contexts-"eSTEAMed Women: Exploring 40+ Years of Women's Career Experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022.
  • Solange Charas, PhD (GRS ’14, management) has written a book to help your organization evolve to respond to the changing “world of work.” The book, Humanizing Human Capital: Invest in Your People for Optimal Business Returns, highlights 20 critical principles, each one written to guide the organization in the transformation they need to undergo to appeal to the needs of today’s employees. The book is available on Amazon.
  • Lori Kendall, PhD (GRS ’16, management) presented a paper on Translating Theory into Practice:  Organizations and the Future of Work at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022.
  • Tom King, DM (MGT ’16) shares advice for how to get more “wow” and fewer yawns when presenting data on the Journal of Accountancy podcast.
  • James Hemsath, DBA (MGT ’17) joins the Energeia Podcast to discuss his vast and varied career interests with a primary focus on the nature and nuances of collaboration, including: Collective ambition as the starting point for building resilient trust among different parties; Unified shared vision as an impediment to collaboration; The necessity of outliers and outside voices in truly collaborative work; Mere transactionalism versus true transformation; Scientific colonization and traditional indigenous knowledge in the Arctic region; Moving away from isolated zero-sum competition toward collective strengths-building; and the superiority of rationally understanding perspective over practicing empathy in the area of collaboration.
  • Shola Ajiboye, PhD (GRS ’19, management) presented a paper on Impacts of Management Consultant Deep Values on client-consultant Cooperation at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022.
  • Shola Ajiboye, PhD (GRS ’19, management), Carl Greppin, PhD (GRS ’20, management) and Hassan Ahmed, DM (MGT ’21) presented a paper on Consulting in Emerging Market Economies: The Experience of Engaged Consultants at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022.
  • Yolonda Freeman-Hildreth, PhD (GRS ’19, management) presented her research on Exploring the Influence of Implicit Bias on Underrepresented Minority Recruitment and Retention in PA Programs at the 2022 PAEA Education Forum in San Diego, CA in October 2022.
  • Varun Nagaraj, PhD (GRS ’19, management) presented a paper on A Swarm of Scholars Adapting and Improving on the Swarm Method of Collaborative Qualitative Research at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022.
  • Robert Warren, DBA (MGT ’19), Tim Fogarty, Philip Cola, PhD (GRS ’15, management) and Dale Hartz, DM (MGT ’14) published an article in the International Journal of Public Administration on A Qualitative Inquiry into Mission Creep at the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service in October 2022.
  • Ghassan Abukhar, PhD (GRS ’21, management) presented a paper on IT Project Manager’s Influence Tactics To Form Critical Project Alignments  at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022.
  • Ezekiel Bonillas, DBA (MGT ’22) presented a paper on Factors Impacting the Growth of Latino Entrepreneurs and their Firms for the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation sponsored 2022 Colloquium on Transitional Entrepreneurship. 
  • Michael Goulder, DM (MGT ’22), Yunmei Wang, PhD (GRS ’14, management ) and Kalle Lyytinen, PhD presented a paper on What do they want? The effect of logistical service quality on direct-to-consumer customer satisfaction at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022.
  • Ali Raja, DM student and Phil Cola, PhD (GRS ’15, management) presented at the Association of Clinical and Translational Science (ACTS) Conference in April on Multidisciplinary Translation of Qualitative Research Findings to Address the Treatment of Patients with Opioid Use Disorder in U.S. Emergency Departments.
  • Seyi Ajayi, PhD student, presented his research on Implementing ESG Principles in Corporate Organizations Factors Affecting the Adoption of Social Programs in Organizations at the Doctoral Consortium of the Engaged Management Scholarship (EMS) Conference, September, 2022, Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara, Mexico.

  • Donna Contat, DBA student, presented her research on Remote/Hybrid Teams Impact on Durable Goods New Product Development at the Doctoral Consortium of the Engaged Management Scholarship (EMS) Conference in September, 2022, Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara, Mexico.

  • Justin Ribeiro, DBA student, presented his research on Leadership Effect on Diffusion of Innovations Developed within Agile Software Development Teams at the Doctoral Consortium of the Engaged Management Scholarship (EMS) Conference in September, 2022, Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara, Mexico.

  • Riberio’s proposal was accepted for the SeaGL conference in November on the motivations that keep OSS developers writing code, exploring the current state of the research regarding motivations in OSS as well with a look forwards towards the impact of free riders and how their behavior affects the nature of contribution from authors within OSS. SeaGL is a technical summit dedicated to spreading awareness and knowledge about open source software, hardware, and culture.

  • Riberio released version 3.2.1 of Google Scholar Citation Count for Zotero with support for Zotero 6. The add-on fetches the number of citations of your Zotero collection items from Google Scholar, adding the citation count to the extra column for reference and sorting.

  • Dalithia Smith, DBA student, presented her research on Advancing African Americans:  Securing the C-Suite in Corporate America at the Doctoral Consortium of the Engaged Management Scholarship (EMS) Conference in September, 2022, Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara, Mexico.

  • Roman Terekhin, PhD student, presented a paper on Peer Coaching Groups to Bring Development for Everyone at the 82nd Annual Academy of Management Meeting in Seattle, Washington, August 2022. Terekhin also presented his research on Peer Coaching Groups to Bring Development for Everyoneat the European Academy of Management Conference (EURAM) 2022 and the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference 2022.

  • Curtis Merriweather Jr., PhD student, and a design and innovation PhD fellow at Weatherhead School of Management, said the first step in any cybersecurity plan needs to be an assessment to identify vulnerabilities. “Sometimes the big picture here is just finding ways to contain the hackers if they do get in, so they can't get out and go to other places,” he said. Crain’s Cleveland Business: Internet of Things creates new risks for commercial real estate.

  • Carl Watson, PhD student, presented his research on Transformation Leaders, Form-Giving, and Organizational Adaptive Capacity: Strategy Implementation through Enduring Design Performance at the Doctoral Consortium of the Engaged Management Scholarship (EMS) Conference in September, 2022, Universidad Panamericana, Guadalajara, Mexico.
