Jeff Frey, PhD ‘19 and Varun Nagaraj, PhD, ‘19 became good friends while in the PhD program and often worked on projects together. One such project was a piece written in 2018 for their Ethics course with Professor Tony Jack in which they explored the challenge of ethical leadership. The topic they chose to tackle: the ethical edge of persuasion... when a leader falls off the cliff into manipulation. Good, bad, or indifferent, all leaders struggle with how to recognize and stay away from the edge. The paper and presentation were fun to do, well received in the course, and that was the end of it... until...recently.
After having written and published articles individually over the last 2 years, they wondered if the band could get together one more time. They dusted off their piece on ethical leadership and submitted it to Psychology Today as a 4-part series published weekly throughout the month of February 2021; each featured on the homepage of PsychologyToday.com for a day.
This is a great reminder to all - if you have an old assignment or project that you were proud of, it may be publishable even years later. No paper left behind! Read Jeff and Varun’s series of articles on Ethical Leadership.
