Shirley Leonard is the new Associate Dean of Development & External Relations at the Weatherhead School of Management. After graduating from Bowling Green State University with her BSBA and her MBA from Cleveland State University, Shirley spent much of her career in industry before entering the nonprofit world. For nearly twenty years, she worked in marketing and product development for American Greetings Corporation and served as Executive Director of Product Management leading the greeting card division. Through her experience and connections in Cleveland Bridge Builders leadership organization, she joined College Now as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations and became Interim Vice President of Institutional Advancement. This was her foray into higher education and helping students pursue a college degree via scholarships and mentoring, something about which she is very passionate. From there, she joined Girl Scouts of North East Ohio and most recently served as Senior Director of Advancement for the Monte Ahuja College of Business and Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University.
Shirley is married to her college sweetheart, Dan, and they have two grown children living in Columbus. They are avid hikers and have visited nearly every National Park in the U.S., as well as the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. They can often be found on the trails in the Cleveland Metroparks and Cuyahoga Valley National Park. She has also volunteered for many years on the Marketing Committee for the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Conservancy, as well as mentored a college student through the Say YES to Cleveland program.
